Multilayered presentation format for clinical practice guidelines

We have developed a multilayered presentation format that allows clinicians to successively view more in-depth information. Starting with the recommendations, clinicians can, on demand, access a rationale and a key information section containing statements on quality of the evidence, balance between desirable and undesirable consequences, values and preferences, and resource considerations. This format can be implemented in guidelines both electronically and in printed versions. It is now available in GRADE's official software GRADEpro Guideline Development Tool (http://www.gradepro.org/). It has already been implemented in several guidelines internationally (see the GRADE database of evidence profiles and evidence to decision frameworks) and is gradually being implemented in national guidelines programs internationally (e.g. see the European Commission Initiative on Breast Cancer).
